Transport of oversized cargo from Bulgaria to Belgium Jan 2012
In January 2012 we were contracted for delivery of crusher equipment for mining industry, manufactured in Bulgaria with final destination Chile. All units were transported by truck from factory in Bulgaria to Danube Port Ruse where units were loaded on river vessel with the idea to reach Antwerp via Danube-Main-Rhine canal. In Antwerp cargo had to be transshipped on ocean going vessel to Chile. Unfortunately near Krems, Austria main engine of river vessel damaged and vessel grounded on 15 meters from right co?st of the river. Due to low level water, vessel could not be towed nor discharged by floating crane and she stayed grounded for 1 month. As a consequence due to serious danger for the hull damage, ship owner declared General Average. When water level was increased, vessel has been towed by another vessel to Linz where cargo has been transshipped on trucks in order to be moved to Antwerp. As we were already of the schedule we could not wait for a barge solution to Antwerp and thus we decided to proceed with the faster option - by trucks.
